Eco Fair

My Eco Self is organising an eco fair in my local area. I'm struggling for ideas for children's workshops - can anyone help? They need to be things which aren't too messy (not a water supply right beside the tables.) So far I have got a 'tree-pee' for them to decorate - any other original and brilliant ideas welcome.

Could not access the link. Not sure it's available where you are but I seem to remember a fair here in DC at the national mall where kids hooked up electric toys to small solar panels. It was pretty cool!

Ooooh how exciting!!! Well done you!

I went to he Camden Green Fair a couple of months ago - they had a great stall. Basically a huge box of organic veggies and fruit, and the children were encouraged to make animals out of them using toothpicks and stick-on googly eyes. also maybe you could do a grow-your-own cress thing, remember doing that in school? that would be really cute...

mmm, I just met a friend for dinner and she suggested growing cress as well. I may have to very quickly become an expert in such things!

Was struck by more ideas whilst eating my breakfast this a.m.....

You could do the cress thing in empty eggshells so the kids can paint faces on the front and the cress grows out like hair...

Also if you can get a cheap job lot or a donation maybe you could have some plain jute shoppers that they could decorate with fabric paint and ribbons and things that they could use as their lunch bag or book bag for school or whatever.

I met a chap and his g/f at a festival a few weeks ago - i think they do the festival/fete circuit and teach hula hooping and organise egg and spoon races and stuff like that. lovely people, can't remember their names but think they're called hularama or something similar. Don't know if they charge but if they have a website it might give you ideas.

Also I know the lady who organises green fairs for southwark. she's also really lovely, let me know if you want me to put you in touch, she might be full of helpful advice.

Good luck with it!

Thanks Jack and Jade for your suggestions. I'm keen to do some kind of planting thing (so cress good) but then my mum friend said that would be a real pain to carry home. But I will definitely consider your suggestions! I like the idea of the veg animals.
